Re: Weekly Letter 12/20/2009

Kendal’s Suit is Sa-Weet!
We have been having a great Christmas season, Everyone we talk to is just a little bit friendlier, and Hobbs and I have been getting along just a little bit better! We are having a great time teaching all the people in California, it was about 65-70 degrees, today, just so you know I’m not freezing to death :), and speaking of Tamilies, we are going over to an investigator’s house, Thor, to make some with him, this evening. We are going to have a Christmas Eve party, with the Watt family, A breakfast with the Purvus family Christmas morning, lunch with the Silcocks, and Christmas dinner with the best recent converts ever, the Skordas family. Umm, ya, about the twelve days of Christmas…. I am still working on finding someone to give it to, sorry about that, we have been pretty busy teaching, and such, and it slipped my mind. One of the coolest things about this season, is recognizing blessings that come from obedience, like just the other day, we got a lesson with Susie and David, a family that we have been trying to get a hold of for the last like two months, and finding a new investigator, basically every time that we go out tracting, it is just a great time of year.
I will probably call dad’s Cell phone between 11 and 1:00 Christmas morning.
One of the cool things I have noticed lately, not really Christmas related, is that I am having and easier time recognizing answers to my prayers, like I can kneel down, and ask something, and before I can finish my question, I already have my answer, it is amazing when I am asking for what I should study for our investigators, because either I immediately get my answerer, or within like five minutes of opening the Book of Mormon, or Preach My Gospel, I have found something that perfectly applies to them.
Another thing I have found is the advice that I have taken for granted over the years, like you guys telling me stuff, like what to do, and I didn’t listen, and now that I try to explain it to someone else, I can see how important it was. Like for example one of the missionaries today, said “did you guys ever do something that your parents said specifically not to do, and then pretend like you didn’t hear them”  and I was thinking to myself, Ya, when I was like 10 years old, when I didn’t know how to “play the game” and have a world of things open up to me, as I increased trust from you guys. And it just made me thing how sad it is that there are all these guys out here, learning the hard way life lessons, and failing now that it is so important, instead of just learning it back when they were still living at home. Anyway, didn’t mean to complain, just saying how I under appricated your advice and teaching that you guys gave me when I was growing up. Another thing that I find funny is all the guys in the apartment make fun of the smoothies with spinach and oranges, and strawberries, I make in the morning, and the whole wheat waffles, while they down a bowl of captain crunch, or coco crunchies. They feel like junk and are starving within about an hour, and I feel great!
Well anyway, Just know that I feel great, I’m still having a blast out here, and that I love you guys!

Weekly Letter 12/20/09

Merry Christmas Elder Hansen,
What a marvelous time of year.  Remember that you are exactly where you are supposed to be, doing exactly what you’re supposed to be doing.  Isn’t that a a beautiful feeling?  To know that right now you are living up to all that the Lord expects of you.  You’re CK material.  That’s got to feel good!
Church was wonderful today.  The choir sang, “It’s Light”, by Mike N*****.  That’s our ward’s traditional Christmas carol, as you know.  Thelma W***** called and asked Kayla and Lexa if they would play the Christmas duet on the piano that they played last year.  As far as I could tell it was flawless.  I was so proud of them.  I sure hope I will have the chance to feel the same way tomorrow.  They have a Piano Recital at Mark A*****’s house tomorrow and practicing the piano hasn’t been the number one priority in either of their lives lately.  Kayla performed the jive at half time at the game this week and then she went to the Senior Ball with Kendall K***** yesterday.  That was fun because she has ballroom with Kendall and they could dance fun dances together.  You should have seen Kendal’s suit.  It was a 70’s dance and he had a brown corduroy suit just like Napoleon Dynamite!  You totally would have loved it!  He said that it was his dad’s and he actually wore it in the 70’s. ( I attached a picture)    All dressed up for Winter Ball!
Brielle and I attended the Spanish speaking branch this evening.  We enjoyed the meeting but it was an added bonus when we found out that they were having a linger-longer and fed us tamales. Yahoo!
I know that Jeff already covered this subject but I want to make sure there aren’t any misunderstandings…if you call us on Christmas Day use his cell phone ***-***-**** and you’ll catch us either home or at grandparents’.  If for some freak reason his cell phone falls in the toilet then gma’s # is ***-***-****.  I know that you’re already on top of these things but a mom can’t be too careful:)
So, this week’s tender mercy is that dad got a bonus for Christmas this year.  The company has been suffering, as you know, so he didn’t get one last year and didn’t expect one this year.  The true blessing is that our house needs to be re-shingled and we had no idea how we were going to afford it.  Ryan told us how much he spent on Sheridan’s this summer and I figured ours would be more because it’s bigger.  The bonus was the amount we’ve been praying for. to redo the roof next spring.  Brielle reminded us that we received this blessing because of your willingness to serve a mission.  Thank you, son, for the Christmas present!
I love you with all my heart.  Have a wonderful Christmas!
Mom

Re: Weekly Letter 12/6/09

Hey baby, I know that fasting is a great blessing for us to have as well, Just look at the the sons of heliman, how they received the power to prophcey from fasting, incredible. I wish I had as strong a testimony of it as you do though, I guess I just need to test it out better. I do however, have an incredible testimony of prayer, I think I told you guys about how an exange was sleeping, and I prayed and within five minutes, He was calling me, saying he woke up for no reason other then thinking about us, Also we got results from transfers today, and I was told that I am staying, and that another elder in our apartment, that… well, lets, just say he is not quite as gung-ho about the rules, as I feel missoinaries should be, not like huge rules, just like getting up on time, and bed, writing in journal, talking about worldly things, well, anyway, this elder is influencing my Trainee Elder Hobbs, and it has really been bothering me, I just figured I would stick it out to the transfer, and either he or I would Go, but to everyone’s suprise, I stayed, he stayed and his conpanion left, So I was a little discourged about that, so I went into the other room, and really poured out my soul in prayer, and I received great confort, and councel to talk to Elder Hobbs about it. So we went out, and had a good long talk, and I think we got it all worked out, So I am pretty excited to see how this next transfer goes. Also to be able to spend christmas with my ward family that I have grown close to is awesome. Thank you family for thinking about me so much and for dreaming that I am home, before you know it, I will be.  Thank you so much mom, for sending the Jacket, I only had a wind breaker, that was left over from another missionary, and it actually snowed a little tiny bit last night, so it is gettting cold. I hate to ask for anything else, but I thought of another christmas present that I need, We always tape up our planner covers, so they don’t fall apart, and I need a small size hole punch, that I can punch through it for the binding. It has the same size holes as the preach my gospel, does. I hope that makes sense, just a single hole punch, but with a little smaller size, spiral bound size. Love you guys so much, and thank you so much for the support! PS love you ryan, I was practacly crying, as I tryed to supress my laughter in the library, reading your email.

Weekly Letter 12/6/09

Dear Elder Hansen,

Julie R*****, who I told you about earlier, came and sat at the house for a couple of hours Monday while I went to a Rosetta Stone training at school. It’s nice to give and take in a relationship.  I’ve enjoyed becoming friends with her.  Leslie P***** and her family are gone to Hawaii for a couple of weeks and have Kayla house sitting.  She loves it because she gets a whole house to herself, all the food she can eat and she gets paid!  Can you beat that?  The only thing that’s not fun is the dogs waking up at 4:00 A.M. and needing to go out.

I got Pack Meeting over with for December already and things are looking up.  Thursday was ward temple night and the Relief Society President, Lori K*****, challenged us as women to go to the 7:00PM session. Brielle wanted to be a part of that so she came from Rexburg and attended the session with us, it was so fun.  Jeff and I went to dinner for our 24th wedding anniversary Friday night to Johnny Carino’s and Jamie G***** was waitressing there.  She was very polite.  We had a lovely evening. Saturday was the windiest and coldest day so far so dad decided to hang Christmas lights outside.  They look marvelous, by the way.  It snowed today but only about an inch.  Nothing to brag about.

Grandma Dorothy is still a blessing in our lives.  I’m telling ya, between the blessings we get from you serving a mission and grandma living with us – there’s almost more than we can take in.  I see tender mercies every day.  Today for Sacrament Meeting Brother B***** challenged all the “almost” testimony bearers to utilize this last testimony meeting in the year 2009.  It was so nice to hear people we don’t usually hear.  The spirit was strong and we were all edified.

Last Sunday I was moved upon to look through dad’s Gospel Principles lesson manual.  As soon as I flipped to the *Fasting* lesson I knew I was supposed to teach it.  I asked your day, “Can I teach this lesson?”  His mouth dropped open and he said, “Of course you can.  It’s in two weeks.” I’ve studied the lesson and pondered it for a week and I’m looking forward to teaching it next Sunday.  If there’s one thing I have a testimony of, it’s fasting.  I know without any shadow of a doubt that you can truly tap into the powers of heaven with fasting.  It’s also a wonderful opportunity to show your love to God through obedience.  The lesson pointed out that it is two meals that are to be missed.  I had a wonderful fasting experience today.  I prayed before, during and after my fast with complete faith that the Lord would bless me with no hunger pains.  My stomach rumbled a couple of times (a reminder to thank H.F. again for the fasting experience) but I didn’t have a single hunger pain until after I said my closing prayer.  Once the testimony is gained, fasting is a joy and a privilege!

I love you son.  You are in my thoughts and prayers daily.  Today I missed hearing, “I do what I want.”  Believe it or not 😉

Hugs and Kisses,

Mom
